Words of Wisdom: Celebrating Poem in Your Pocket Day this April

Words of Wisdom: Celebrating Poem in Your Pocket Day this April

To close out the month, Thursday, April 30, 2026, is Poem in Your Pocket Day. This lighthearted holiday started in New York City in 2002 and has since spread across the world as the perfect way to conclude National Poetry Month.

How it Works

The rules are simple: find a poem you love, print it or write it out, and keep it in your pocket. Throughout the day, when people ask “What’s in your pocket?”, you share a verse. It’s a wonderful way to inject a little bit of art and humanity into a standard workday.

A Few “Pocket-Sized” Ideas:

  • For the Optimist: “Hope is the thing with feathers / That perches in the soul…” — Emily Dickinson.
  • For the Nature Lover: “The earth has music for those who listen.” — George Santayana.
  • For the Busy Professional: “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” (The last stanza is a perfect reminder of the journey ahead).

As we finish “Marching” and “April-ing” into 2026, take a moment this Thursday to appreciate the power of a few well-chosen words.
